PERSONAL BIOGRAPHY

Attorney, Fred E. Wilson, was born, lived and attended public schools in the West Columbia area until he moved to Huntsville, Texas to attend Sam Houston State University.  His parents had come to the West Columbia area so that his dad could work in the local oilfields for The Texas Company (predecessor company of Texaco, Inc.) along with Fred’s grandfather and uncles.  Fred helped pay for his own early college education by also working in the oilfields in the summer months as well as a couple of jobs with County road maintenance crews. Fred’s academic endeavors were cut short, however, by his enlistment into the United States Air Force in 1966.   After his basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas, and technical training at Chanute AFB in Rantoul, Illinois, Fred was stationed for a period of time at Carswell AFB in Fort Worth, Texas before volunteering for duty in Vietnam.  In May, 1967 Fred arrived in Saigon, Vietnam and was assigned to Danang AFB, Vietnam with periodic temporary voluntary assignments at Dong Ha, Vietnam until December 1968.  While in the United States Air Force, Fred was a weather observer responsible for the ground surface observations in support of various aircraft and military missions and received various honors for those endeavors including the prestigious U. S. Air Force Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with bronze stars.

Fred received his Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Air Force in May, 1969 and shortly thereafter went to work in the petrochemical industry in the Brazosport area, working initially for the petrochemical companies themselves and later for some of the construction companies that are so important to the success of that industry.  In 1976, Fred  married his loving and supporting wife, Becky, while he was working in the retail industry. Together, they started their own hardware & oilfield supply businesses in West Columbia. Eventually they also started Columbia Glove Company during the oil boom days of the 1980’s.  As the oil industry began to experience bad times during the late 1980’s Fred & Becky realized that a new endeavor must be commenced.  That new endeavor was to be in the legal field.  Becky had already received her Associates Degree as a Legal Assistant from Brazosport Community College so Fred began his road toward a Juris Doctorate degree by attending the University of Houston at Clear Lake in pursuit of his Bachelor of Science degree in September 1981.  He graduated from UHCL with that Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Legal Studies with American Jurisprudence emphasis in December 1984 having received some academic honors along the way.

In January 1986, Fred began his law studies at South Texas College of Law, attending part time at first while working full time as a law clerk for a law office in Angleton, Texas.  In January 1987, in an effort to complete his law studies in the shortest time possible, he began attending South Texas College of  Law on a full time basis and managed to successfully complete the remaining 42 semester hours of the 90 semester hours required for his degree in that single year and received his Juris Doctorate degree in December 1987.

Fred took the 2 ˝ day Texas State Bar Exam in February 1988 and was licensed to practice law in May 1988.  He has now been successfully practicing law with his law office being located at the same place in West Columbia for over 16 years.  Fred’s law practice mainly emphasizes civil trial work in the areas of family law, personal injury, probate, and other civil matters.  He also does a bit of work with wills, contracts and real estate.

Fred & Becky now have 2 beautiful children, Ashley and Condra, who are both active in sports and academic endeavors which, of course, keeps their mom and dad busy as well.  Being a father and husband himself, Fred strives to accomplish what is in the best interest of the children who might be the subject of any of his cases as well as attempting to obtain the fairest and equitable results possible for all of his clients.  Fred’s varied background allows him to observe and appreciate the problems and needs of those in all economic conditions and circumstances.  He proudly remains in his law office on the main street of his hometown so that he can serve those who have been so very thoughtful and considerate of him and his family for so many years.
